Every piece in our recycled brass jewellery collection started life as something you'd never think to wear: a broken brass tap. In Nairobi, Kenya, skilled artisans rescue that scrap brass and turn it into chokers, bangles, earrings and rings, using a brass-making technique that's been passed down for around a century.
Here's the story behind the pieces, and why we love working with them.
From broken tap to jewellery
Brass is one of the most reusable metals there is. It doesn't lose its strength when it's reworked, so a tap that has stopped working can become something beautiful instead of scrap. Our artisan partners collect broken taps and plumbing brass, then shape and finish each piece by hand.
Because nothing is newly mined, every piece reduces the need for new metal. And because each one is made by hand in small batches, you'll notice small differences from piece to piece. That isn't a flaw; it's the mark of the maker.
Made by Kenyan artisans. Worn by the world.
The workshop in Nairobi brings together traditional skill and contemporary design. Working directly with makers means fairly paid artisans, small-batch production, and jewellery with a real story behind it. You can meet more of the makers we work with.
Names with meaning
Each collection takes its name from Swahili, the language spoken across Kenya and East Africa:
- Wimbi means wave, and its flowing shape echoes moving water.
- Furaha means joy.
- Amani means peace.
- Tumaini means hope.
- Duara means circle.
- Dira means compass.
It's a small detail, but it makes each piece a more meaningful gift.

Quick answers
Is recycled brass jewellery good quality?
Yes. It's solid recycled brass, tough enough for everyday wear, and reworking brass doesn't weaken it.
Will brass tarnish?
Over time the shine softens to a warm, matt gold, which many people love. If you prefer the original shine, polish gently with a soft cloth.
Does it make a good gift?
Every piece comes in a gift box or gift bag with a small card explaining what it's made from. Its gold tone also makes it a thoughtful choice for a golden anniversary, or browse more gifts for her.
